Week of September 17th

Monday, Sept. 17th (M)
· Due: Come to class ready to discuss everybody’s favorite book: Mayflower!
· Class: Socratic seminar on Mayflower.

Tuesday, Sept. 18th (T)
· Due: Frederick Douglass reading and written response.
· Class: Introduction to Literacy Narrative unit with discussion of Frederick Douglass; lesson on annotation skills.

Wednesday, Sept. 19th (W)
· Due: Read Malcolm X; then write an objective summary of the reading in your own words (just the facts, not influenced by personal feelings or opinions).
· Class: Discussion of Malcolm X with film clip. Lesson on annotation.

Thursday, Sept. 20th (H)
· Class drops today – sniff!

Friday, Sept. 21st (F)
· Due: David Sedaris and Mike Rose readings with response.
· Class: Struggling with literacy. Explanation of literacy narrative assignment.

Monday, Sept. 24th (S)
· Due: Write detailed, interesting, correctly spelled sentences using each of the vocabulary words in Unit #1. Underline the word in the sentence. Start thinking of events for your literacy narrative.
· Class: Literacy timelines and interviews.

Notice: Vocabulary quiz on Unit #1 scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 25th. Also note that class calendars are always subject to change; I will, of course, let you know in the event something is rescheduled, added, or deleted.
